Ruth has been invited to speak on the importance of reading aloud at the Nov 5th ‘Read-Aloud Nebraska’ event at Seward Memorial Library, NE.
She will talk from an illustrator perspective on ‘How Reading Aloud Helps to Illustrate Books’, and also how critical it is to read aloud to children who cannot sit still long - her son’s story.
Picture books are a child’s first exposure to creative language and also to art. Illustrators have a knack of finding the ‘perfect’ balance of words and images, by reading it over and over – aloud – so that when the book is read aloud it can speak to all the ways different children learn. This is especially important for children with ADHD, epilepsy, and other conditions – enabling them to move, while hearing and seeing.
