Illustrator of children's books The Kissing Hand and Sassafras, award-winning artist Ruth Harper (now Ruth Johnson) paints nature with beautiful details and intensified color.

She loves to 'weave' calligraphy into many of her paintings as a way of appealing to not only visual senses but also to logic.

Ruth has a graphic arts background and is a self-taught painter whose love for children led to many rewarding years of teaching art. She has taught both adults and children in school and community art programs.
